# Windows installer.

One setup file, 64-bit Windows 10 or 11. The installer gives you the emulator and the launcher — nothing else.

## Facts (2026-10-13)

- **File:** Kiln setup EXE, 64-bit
- **OS:** Windows 10 (1803+) / 11
- **Contains:** Emulator + launcher only
- **Next step:** Install official firmware

## Install it

1. Grab [the Windows installer](/download) from this site. That is the only download you need.

2. Run the setup EXE. If Windows SmartScreen pauses, confirm the publisher details and continue. Admin rights help when installing for all users.

3. Launch Kiln from the desktop shortcut. You will see the launcher window: File menu, Install Firmware and Boot system software buttons, and an empty library.

4. Next: [install official firmware](/boot/install-firmware). Nothing boots until you do.

## What the installer does not include

No firmware. No games. No keys, no console-modding tools, nothing grey. The installer is the emulator and the launcher.

If Windows asks for a runtime DLL on first launch, that is the official Microsoft Visual C++ package — see [missing runtime](/lab/missing-runtime). Do not download loose DLLs from mirror sites.

## Requirements check

64-bit x86 Windows is mandatory — there is no 32-bit build and no ARM build. The realistic floor is a 6-core CPU, Vulkan 1.3 GPU, and 16 GB RAM.

The full floor-vs-lab breakdown is [minimum rig](/rig/minimum-rig). If your PC is below the floor, expect boot checks, not gameplay.

## FAQ

### Where do I download Kiln?

From the download page on this site. One setup EXE for 64-bit Windows 10 and 11.

### Do I need administrator rights?

Usually not for a per-user install. Admin helps for all-users installs and for letting the installer register cleanly.

### Windows flagged the setup file. Is it safe?

New unsigned-adjacent EXEs get flagged by SmartScreen routinely. Download only from this site and check the is Kiln safe page for the full answer.
