# Firmware PUP.

PS5UPDATE.PUP is Sony's official system software. You get it from Sony, Kiln installs it, games boot from it.

## Facts (2026-10-13)

- **Term:** PS5UPDATE.PUP
- **What:** Official PS5 system software
- **Source:** Sony's official page, by you
- **Install:** File → Install Firmware

## Definition

PS5UPDATE.PUP is the official PlayStation 5 system-software file published by Sony. It is the console's own firmware in one package.

Kiln boots this official software inside the emulator — the same model as RPCS3, shadPS4, and Kyty-style emulators: user-supplied, official, unmodified.

## How Kiln uses it

You download the PUP from Sony's official PS5 system software page. In Kiln: File then Install Firmware, pick the file, wait for the log line.

Then [boot system software](/boot/boot-system-software) brings up the PS5 home. Games launch from that booted state.

Full steps: [install firmware](/boot/install-firmware).

## What Kiln never does with it

Kiln never hosts, bundles, mirrors, or modifies the PUP. Any site offering Kiln with firmware included is not Kiln — it is a trap.

No key files, no modding tools, no disc-copying instructions. Official file, official page, done.

## FAQ

### Is the PUP part of Kiln?

No. The PUP is Sony's file. Kiln is the emulator; you supply the official firmware yourself.

### Which PUP version should I use?

The current one on Sony's official PS5 system software page. Match what Sony publishes.
