The fix
- Download the official Microsoft Visual C++ 2015–2022 Redistributable (x64) from Microsoft's own site.
- Run it, reboot if asked, then launch Kiln again. The DLL errors go away.
- If Vulkan errors persist instead, update the GPU driver — the Vulkan loader ships with it. See Vulkan 1.3.
Never download loose DLLs
Sites offering single vcruntime140.dll downloads are malware slot machines. The DLL belongs to a Microsoft package — install the package.
Same rule as firmware: official source only. Microsoft for the runtime, Sony for the PUP. No mirrors, no repacks, no exceptions.
Why this happens
Fresh Windows installs often lack the C++ runtime that native apps link against. Kiln is a native Windows app, so Windows asks for it.
This is a five-minute fix, not a Kiln bug. Install the runtime once and every app that needs it benefits.

Can I just download the DLL file?

Runtime installed and Kiln still fails. Now what?
